Reducing, Reusing & Recycling

In today's day and age, it is very important that each one of us are conscious of our carbon footprint. Individuals and corporations alike have to consider sustainability as an important part of their personal 'or' corporate development strategy.

When it comes to living green we have to be aware of the effect we have on the earth. This boils to the every day choices we make such as food, transportation, shopping, energy and so on. Everything we do on this planet has an impact on the world. The earth currently needs people to make a change in order to leave it as a habitable place for future generations.

One of the biggest changes one can make is to lower carbon emissions. We can lower our carbon footprint by making changes such as transportation (how we choose to travel), using energy efficiently and using energy that is renewable.

Our ability to shop is not only enjoyable or beneficial to our lifestyle but it can also voice our opinion on the state of things. Green living means choosing to shop selectively. This means finding products and foods that are grown in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. There are many campaigns that are advocating the use of lesser known cosmetic and household brands over unsustainable ones. Electronics or appliances are also best if they use energy efficiently.

Many people buy products that are not biodegradable and take a very long time to start to break down. Therefore, the options for buying products include buying less (reducing), reusing and recycling. Reducing is perhaps the easiest way to live green. You simply buy less and lower your consumption. It is especially important to be aware of the materials that you are using. If you are having a party, opt for paper plates instead of plastic. These little changes can make a big difference. Turning off appliances or electrical outlets or getting old clothes fixed instead of purchasing new items are other options for reducing our impact.

There are many ways that we can recycle things instead of getting rid of them. Instead of getting rid of old jars they can be used as containers or even drinking glasses. Giving away old items to those in need or to those who want it is another way to encourage re-use.

Recycling uses old, thrown out items and changes them into something new. Many neighborhoods and areas have recycle systems that allow us to organize our trash in order for it to be used at a recycling plant. Another option is to find out what places take cans or plastic items and either give a small amount of money in exchange or simply take care of recycling it.

Other options of making daily decisions can be as easy as watching how much water or paper we use and reducing it when possible.
