At an apparent level it would seem that good management and leadership methods would simply involve logical, deductive approach to reality- reality of your organization’s (and team’s) vision, goals and so on. A Business Administration or other similar course-work would prepare you for the real-world scenario. But we know that the real business world is a lot different than the way it is portrayed in our schools and colleges.
The other challenge that most managers (particularly new managers) face is that they have no one to turn around to… they do not want to ask about their doubts or voice their angst or concerns to their boss or mentor (provided by their organization), as they are worried that it may make them seem less knowledgeable or less of a ‘leader’. They do not want to take any official course or workshop in leadership, because they are concerned about the optics with their team.
In this way, their genuine quest for better methods to approach management duties or leadership role in their specific scenario gets mired under optics-issues or outright lack of organizational support. Many leaders and managers are known to face tremendous job stress, some of which could have been avoided if they had someone to talk to and discuss with, without any worries about how that would be perceived by their teams or their organizational leadership.
